Happy New Year!

A new year means a fresh start and new opportunities to take control of your finances. This is the perfect time to reflect on your financial journey and set meaningful goals for the year ahead.

Why Write Down Your Financial Goals?
Studies show that people who write down their goals are more likely to achieve them. Writing down your financial goals helps you:

  • Clarify your vision: Clearly define what you want to achieve.
  • Stay focused: Keep your goals top of mind throughout the year.
  • Track progress: Measure your success and celebrate milestones.

Start by identifying your top three financial goals for 2025—whether it’s paying off debt, saving for a vacation, or building your emergency fund. Then, break each goal into smaller, actionable steps.

This Month's Focus: Best Practices to Pay Off Debt

Are you feeling overwhelmed by debt? You’re not alone—but the good news is, there’s a way out. Here are three proven strategies to help you gain control and start eliminating debt:

  1. The Snowball Method
Start by paying off your smallest debt first while making minimum payments on the rest. Once it’s paid off, roll that payment amount into the next smallest debt. This builds momentum and keeps you motivated!
  2. The Avalanche Method
Focus on the debt with the highest interest rate first, while continuing minimum payments on other debts. This saves you the most money in the long run.
  3. Budget for Debt Payments
Create a realistic budget that prioritizes debt payments. Consider cutting back on non-essential spending and redirecting those funds to your debts.

Budgeting Tip of the Month

Use the 50/30/20 Rule

  • 50%: Essentials (housing, utilities, groceries)
  • 30%: Discretionary spending (entertainment, dining out)
  • 20%: Savings and debt repayment

Adjust these percentages to fit your financial situation and ensure you’re allocating enough toward your goals.
